iOS Removal Prevention Setup Guide for Windows

To set up Removal Prevention using a Windows PC, please follow these steps:

Before beginning make sure that iTunes is installed on your computer from the Apple website (and not from Microsoft Store). If iTunes is not installed, you can download it from this link.

Step 1 - Download and run the Removal Prevention setup file

  1. Download the Removal Prevention setup file from this link. A file named Canopy_Removal_Prevention.exe with the Canopy icon will appear in your computer's Downloads folder.
  2. Open and run the Removal Prevention setup file from top corner of your browser, or from your PC's Downloads folder. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.

Step 2 - Connect the protected iOS device to your computer

  1. Connect your device to the PC with a USB cable.
  2. Press Trust when the notification appears. If the Trust notification does not appear, you may have already trusted the computer in the past.
  3. Click the Start button on the installation setup screen on your computer.

Step 3 - Backup your device using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes  on your PC.
  2. In the iTunes app on your PC, click the Device button near the top left of the iTunes window.

  4. Click the Next button on the installation setup screen on your computer.

Step 4 - Disable your Passcode

  1. Open Settings on your iOS device.

  2. Tap your Apple ID name.
  3. Tap Find My
  4. Tap Find my iPhone, then tap again to turn it off.
  5. Enter your Apple ID password, then tap Turn Off. You’ll be able to reactivate Find my iPhone when Removal Prevention setup is complete.
  6. Click the Next button on the installation setup screen on your computer.

Your device will now automatically restart and Canopy will begin automatically setting up Removal Prevention. Important! Do not disconnect the device from the computer until the setup completes.
