Step 1 - Download and run the Removal Prevention setup file
Step 2 - Connect the protected iOS device to your computer
Step 3 - Backup your device (Recommended)
Backing up your device is optional, but recommended before continuing with the Removal Prevention setup.
A backup ensures your data is protected in case you need to restore your device in the future.
You may use any Apple-supported backup method, including:
iCloud Backup
Apple Devices / Finder on macOS
Other official Apple backup tools
If your iPhone is already backed up automatically via iCloud, you can proceed without creating an additional backup.
For step-by-step instructions, see Apple’s official documentation:

Step 4 - Disable your Passcode
⚠️ Note: If your device uses Face ID or Touch ID, you’ll need to disable it first before turning off your Passcode. You can turn them back on once Removal Prevention setup is complete.
Step 5 - Disable Find my Iphone
Your device will now automatically restart and Canopy will begin automatically setting up Removal Prevention. Important! Do not disconnect the device from the computer until the setup completes.
Step 6 - Enable Remote Management
After enabling Canopy’s Removal Prevention, you may notice a small message on the main Settings screen that says the device is “managed.”
This is a standard Apple message indicating that device protections are active.
If Canopy Shield is later removed, this message will remain visible unless the device is fully erased and restored from a backup made prior to installing Canopy's Removal Prevention. We recommend backing up your device in the first few steps of the process.
Please note:
The message is only a visual indicator and does not impact your device's functionality.
In most cases, no action is required after removing Canopy.
