Starting with Android 15, installing a security certificate manually has become more complex due to system changes on devices like Samsung, Pixel, and others. To simplify setup and ensure complete protection, Canopy offers a designated Chromium-based browser that includes our security certificate built-in.
This browser is available for free on the Google Play Store.
📦 Pre-installed Security Certificate
The Canopy browser includes the certificate required for full content filtering.
🛡️ Maximum Protection
Using this browser ensures that filtering works effectively across all types of websites, including secure (HTTPS) sites.
🧭 Simpler Setup
No need to follow technical steps to install the certificate manually.
Open the Setup Page
After installing Canopy Shield, open any browser (e.g., Chrome). A landing page will appear with two setup options.
Tap “Install Canopy Browser”
This will redirect you to the Play Store.
Install the Browser
Tap Install to download and install the Canopy browser.
Set as Default Browser
When prompted, we recommend making Canopy your default browser to ensure best protection — especially for apps redirected to browser mode when Enhanced Protection is active.
You're Ready!
The Canopy browser is now installed with filtering active. You can now browse safely without needing to install the security certificate manually.
If you prefer to keep using another browser (like Chrome or Edge), you’ll need to manually install the Canopy security certificate.
This ensures your browsing is still protected, even without using the Canopy browser.
Tap “Install Certificate” on the landing page.
You’ll be taken to the certificate installation guide.
Follow these steps:
Tap the Download Certificate button on the guide.
The file will be saved in your Downloads folder as myca.crt
.
Go to Settings > Security (or Security & privacy).
Navigate to:
More security settings > Encryption & credentials > Install a certificate > CA certificate
(On some devices, this may vary slightly.)
Tap Install Anyway if you see a warning message.
You may be asked to enter your screen lock password.
Select Downloads and tap the file myca.crt
.
You're done! The certificate is now installed, and your browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.) will be filtered.
Firefox on Android does not use Android’s system certificate store by default. If you're using Firefox, follow our guide:
