What are Canopy's Content Categories?

Content Categories are lists of apps and websites that share similar themes, purposes, or subject matter. Canopy has created these lists to make it as easy as possible for parents to block or allow entire categories of content as needed for their family. 

See the list below for information about what kinds of apps and websites are included in each category. 

 Browser: The Browser category controls all internet browser apps (such as Google Chrome and Safari) and all web browsing done through browser apps.  Please note that this only affects websites, not internet access via other types of apps (such as social media apps).  

Messaging Apps: The Messaging Apps category includes messaging apps and websites such as WhatsApp, Hangouts, Telegram, and more. The default SMS messaging app on your shield's device is not included in this category.

  Downloads: The Downloads category includes app stores (such as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store) and other websites used for downloading new apps and content to the device.

  Email: The Email category includes email apps and websites, such as Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Mailbox, and more.
 
Money Management: The Money Management category includes finance and business related apps and websites, such as banking apps, investment services, mobile payment apps, and more.

  Games and Gambling: The Games category includes gaming apps and websites, such as Angry Birds, Candy Crush, NBA Live, and more.(Gambling is a sub category of games and it includes all sites and apps that provide Gambling platforms.)

  Information: The Information category includes general information apps and websites, such as Google Maps, Yelp, Amazon Kindle, Wikipedia and more.It also has  three sub categories:Education: Including websites that provide information or selling any educational materials.Entertainment: Websites and entertainment magazines which provide information about music, movies, books, comics, TV, and more.Health and Medicine: Health-related websites which provide information or advice on personal health, medical services, cosmetic surgeries, approved drugs and their medical use, and more. 

 News: The News category includes news apps and websites, such as CNN, BBC, CBS News, The New York Times and more. 

Photo Editing: 
The Photo Editing category includes camera apps, media players, video editing apps, photo gallery apps, and more. 

  Productivity: The Productivity category includes apps that are used for everyday tasks, such as task managers, alarm clocks, keyboards, calculators, office apps, etc.

  Audio: The Radio/Music/Streaming category includes apps and websites that stream audio content online, such as Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Podcasts and more. 

 Remote Connections: 
The Remote Connections category includes remote access apps, such as remote support, FTP clients, apps for accessing IP cameras remotely, etc.

  Retail: The Retail category includes shopping apps and websites, such as Amazon, eBay, Target, AliExpress and more.

  Social Media: The Social Media category includes social network apps or websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn and more. 

 Sports: 
The Sports category includes sports and fitness apps and website, such as Fitbit, Google Fit, ESPN, NFL Now and more.

TV and Streaming: The TV/Streaming category includes apps and website that stream video content such as, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Vimeo and more.

  Wallpapers: The Wallpapers category includes launchers, wallpaper apps, and icon pack apps.

  YouTube: The YouTube category includes the YouTube website and apps that play YouTube videos, such as, YouTube Kids, PlayTube, TubeMate and more. 

Pornography and Other Adult Content: 
Apps and websites which contain pornography, nudity, abuse, drugs, violence, proxy avoidance, alcohol, tobacco, etc.It has four sub categories to control individualy. These are Alcohol Websites that legally promote or sell alcohol products and accessories. Drug Abuse Websites that feature information on illegal drug activities.Marijuana Websites that provide information about or promote the cultivation, preparation, or use of Marijuana.Tobacco Websites that legally promote or sell tobacco or nicotine related products and accessories (this includes smoking, vaping, etc.).
