Canopy offers accountability features designed to help users stay aligned with their online protection goals.
For Adult plans, you can choose one of two accountability options:
Human Accountability Partner
AI Ally
You can use one option at a time.
An Accountability Partner is someone you choose, such as a spouse, family member, mentor, or close friend, who agrees to support you in staying safe and consistent with your online protection.
An Accountability Partner does not manage your account or configure your filters.
Their role is simple and supportive:
They receive requests when you want to make certain changes.
They approve or deny those requests.
They help provide an extra layer of accountability.
This allows you to stay in control while having a trusted person support your goals.
Open your Canopy Dashboard or log in using the Canopy app.
On the main page, click Send Invite.
Enter the email address of the person you want to invite.
They will receive an email invitation and can choose to Accept or Deny.
Once accepted, they become your Accountability Partner.
From that point forward, eligible requests will be sent directly to them for approval.
When you submit a request, your Accountability Partner will:
Receive an email with a secure link.
Approve or deny the request.
No password, login, dashboard, or management app is required.
You choose your own Accountability Partner.
They should be someone you trust and who is willing to support your goals.
Partners can be a spouse, parent, sibling, close friend, mentor, or another trusted person.
Being an Accountability Partner is simple and requires very little setup.
AI Ally is an AI-powered accountability feature available on Adult plans.
Instead of sending requests to another person, requests are handled through your AI Ally.
AI Ally is designed to provide:
Accountability support
Guidance during decision-making moments
Personalized conversations based on your goals
Immediate assistance whenever you need it
When AI Ally is enabled:
Requests that normally require accountability review are handled through AI Ally.
AI Ally can discuss requested changes with you and help determine whether they align with your goals.
AI Ally remembers information you share during setup and learns from previous interactions to provide more personalized support over time.
Whenever a protected action requires review, you will be guided to a conversation with your AI Ally.
Examples may include:
Content filtering changes
Access requests
Protection-related changes
AI Ally will help evaluate the request and provide support based on your stated goals and accountability preferences.
Adult plans can use either a Human Accountability Partner or AI Ally.
Only one accountability option can be active at a time.
AI Ally is designed to provide accountability support without requiring another person to participate.
AI Ally is available whenever you need assistance or guidance.
Because only one accountability method can be active at a time, you must remove your current accountability option before switching to the other.
If you currently use a Human Accountability Partner:
Request to remove your Accountability Partner using the standard removal process.
Wait for the partner to approve the removal request.
Once the partnership has been removed, you can enable AI Ally.
If you currently use AI Ally:
Ask AI Ally to be removed.
AI Ally will discuss the request with you and determine whether to release the partnership.
Once AI Ally has been removed, you can send an invitation to a Human Accountability Partner.
A Human Accountability Partner cannot be invited while AI Ally is still active on the account.
May be best if you prefer support from a trusted person in your life.
May be best if you prefer private, immediate, and always-available accountability support.
Both options are designed to help you stay aligned with your goals while maintaining strong protection and accountability.
