Human Accountability Partner
AI Ally
The removal process depends on which accountability option you currently use.
If you have an active Accountability Partner, you can request to remove them at any time.
The removal is not immediate. Your Accountability Partner must confirm the request before the change takes effect.
You may want to remove your Accountability Partner if:
They are not responding to approval requests.
You need to switch to a different Accountability Partner.
You no longer wish to use that partnership.
⚠️ Important: Canopy Support cannot override, replace, or remove your Accountability Partner. Only you can initiate a removal request.
You can start the removal process from either:
The Canopy Dashboard
The Canopy Shield App
Steps:
Open the Accountability Partner section.
Select Send Removal Request.
Your account will indicate that a removal request has been sent.
Your Accountability Partner will receive an email containing:
Your removal request
A secure response link
After opening the link, they will be able to choose:
Approve Removal
Keep Partnership
The Accountability Partner is immediately removed.
You receive a confirmation notification.
You regain full control of your filtering settings.
You may invite a new Accountability Partner at any time.
The Accountability Partner remains active.
You receive a notification that the request was denied.
Removal is not automatic.
Approval from the Accountability Partner is required.
Removing an Accountability Partner does not affect your subscription.
You may invite a new Accountability Partner at any time.
If your Accountability Partner does not respond, please contact Canopy Support for assistance.
AI Ally is designed to function as an active accountability partner rather than a simple setting that can be turned on or off.
Because of this, removing AI Ally works differently than removing a Human Accountability Partner.
If you decide you no longer want AI Ally, you will need to discuss the request directly with your AI Ally.
AI Ally may:
Ask questions about your request.
Review your goals and previous preferences.
Discuss alternative options.
Evaluate whether removing AI Ally aligns with the goals you originally set.
As part of its accountability role, AI Ally may introduce additional discussion or friction before approving the change.
AI Ally cannot be removed using a simple toggle.
AI Ally is not removed through a standard approval email.
The removal process is handled directly through conversations with your AI Ally.
This behavior is intentional and designed to maintain meaningful accountability rather than allowing immediate removal.
Once AI Ally approves and completes the removal process:
AI Ally will no longer manage accountability requests.
You may continue using Canopy without an accountability feature.
If available, you may choose a different accountability option in the future.
If you're unsure whether you're currently using a Human Accountability Partner or AI Ally, open your Canopy Dashboard or Canopy app and review the accountability section, where your current accountability method will be displayed.
