How to Block or Unfilter a Specific App or Website

Canopy lets you customize the filtering settings for each protected device by creating Custom Filtering Rules. With this feature, you can block or allow access to specific apps or websitesβ€”whether they’re already installed or not.


πŸ“± Set Rules for Specific Apps

To block, allow, or adjust filtering for a specific app:

  1. Open the Canopy for Parents app or log in to the Canopy Web Dashboard.

  2. Select the profile of the protected device you want to manage.

  3. Tap Device Settings (on the app) or Protection Settings (on the web dashboard).

  4. Open the Advanced Filtering tab.

  5. Select Applications (or Apps in the mobile app).

  6. Use the Sort button to sort by name, most used, or date downloaded.

  7. Locate the app you want to adjust by scrolling or using the search bar.

  8. Choose a protection level from the dropdown next to the app name.

  • πŸ”΅ Unfiltered – Canopy will not filter any content within the app.

  • 🟒 Filtered – Canopy will filter the app normally. (Default setting.)

  • 🟑 Enhanced – Stricter filtering that removes minimal clothing, swimwear, and lingerie content. (Not available on Windows or Mac. Learn more about Enhanced Protection)

  • πŸ”΄ Blocked – Canopy will completely prevent access to the app on the protected device.


🌐 Set Rules for Specific Websites

To block, allow, or adjust filtering for a specific website:

  1. Open the Canopy for Parents app or log in to the Canopy Web Dashboard.

  2. Select the profile of the protected device.

  3. Tap Device Settings (app) or Protection Settings (web).

  4. Open the Advanced Filtering tab.

  5. Select Websites.

  6. Tap the βž• icon to add a new website.

  7. Enter the website address and choose a protection level:

  • 🟒 Unfiltered – Canopy will not filter any content within the website.

  • πŸ”΅ Filtered – Canopy will filter the website normally. (Default setting)

  • πŸ”΄ Blocked – Canopy will completely prevent access to the website on the protected device.

  1. Tap Add Website.

To return a website to normal filtering, simply remove it from your list by clicking Remove.
